Couple protest on footbridge

A couple surnamed Siu and Hui, aged 55 and 51, climbed on top of a footbridge outside Exchange Square in Central at about 2.30pm yesterday to protest against the Canadian government's immigration policy. Firefighters helped get the couple back to safety after a one-hour standoff. The couple staged several similar protests at the same spot in 2006 and received suspended 14-day jail terms in November that year for causing a public nuisance.

Four hurt in three-vehicle crash

Four people aged 42 to 52 suffered minor injuries in a crash involving a minibus, a light goods vehicle and a car on Hiram's Highway near Pak Wai, Sai Kung, at 7.35am. They were admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital. The three drivers passed breath tests.

Villagers in building site protest

About 30 villagers protested outside a construction site in Kwu Tung Road at about 9.20am. They said cracks had developed in the walls of their homes after the project began. Police were called to mediate between the villagers and workers. The villagers left the site at about noon.

10 arrested for attacking youth

Police arrested 10 men aged 21 to 27 for attacking a 16-year-old youth on Choi Yuen Estate, Sheung Shui, at about 1.30am. The gang had fled the scene after the attack. The victim was admitted to North District Hospital.

Naked woman taken to hospital

A shop assistant called police when a 33-year-old woman was seen running along Reclamation Street, Mong Kok, naked at 9.45am. The woman was admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital.
