The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education is launching a mathematics programme targeting the territory's brightest primary students.
Working in partnership with the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, the programme announced this week is expected to be launched on a pilot basis at Lock Tao Secondary School in Sha Tin along with a few other primary schools during the Easter Holidays.
The programme is free of charge and is expected to be extended to seven other school districts during this summer holiday and eventually cover 2,100 students by next year.
Students will be selected by primary schools to attend the programme with a curriculum placing emphasis on an active learning and problem-solving approach. Students will also encounter open-ended tasks that even the most able mathematicians might find challenging.
