With six rides at single figure odds, including our cover special Craig's Dragon, Melburnian James Winks will never get a better chance to win a head-to-head with Douglas Whyte in a Jockey Challenge.

Overnight punters almost decided Craig's Dragon was a 'free kick' for Winks and punted the bay galloper down to $22 favourite for the eighth event. But he is just one of an array of chances which have fallen Winks' way this afternoon.

He gets a nice chance in the opening race with Matsukaze, a once-raced youngster trained by Ricky Yiu Poon-fie. Matsukaze missed the start at his debut run, but that tendency should be overcome by the addition of blinkers.

He then rides All For One for Sean Woods in the second, and this much-improved galloper is definitely a winning chance, while his mount in the third is the consistent Speed Fighter, an on-pace runner who's drawn the coveted inside stall on the dirt track.

Winks certainly didn't sneak up on the Jockey Club odds compilers. The Chairman's Sprint Trophy-winning jockey was sent out a $3.50 second favourite behind perennial market leader Whyte ($3.25), whose nine rides include at least three winning chances in Energetic Boy (race two), Fly Me To The Moon (race five) and Three Clubs (race six).
