Homecoming blues

Jin Peh

Have you ever returned home from a long holiday to problems with the plumbing or electricity, or a suffocating feeling of flatness in the place?

Problems such as these can be attributed to an accumulation of yin energy. Homes require human activity to increase the level of yang energy. If, for example, a mansion is inhabited by only one or two people, the occupants may feel lonely and be prone to pessimistic thoughts, lethargy and depression. Excessive yin will also lead to a higher incidence of conditions such as arthritis, night sweats and viral infections.

To raise the level of yang energy after a long period away from home, start by keeping the curtains open to introduce as much natural light as possible. Leaving the radio or television on will also help.

A homecoming party would also be a good idea.

If your home is going to be empty for a few months, consider suggesting to family or close friends that they hold gatherings there while you're away.
