The boxes near Paul Smith's could be described as 'Rugby Row'. They are near the Sequins box, where the Tens players are resplendent in sequinned harlequin vests, and nearby is the home of the HKRFU.
'My box is the Triple A Partners box and we couldn't be in a better spot,' says Smith, chairman of the Hong Kong Tens. 'We're near all the people we know and, especially with the rain, we've enjoyed being under cover. We have had this box for the last 13 years, first under Bank of Bermuda and then from 2004 in my name. We brand it for the company.
'In the box is family - my five children, father-in-law, brother-in-law and wife - our friends in Hong Kong [all from the finance industry], colleagues and some clients.'
Box-hopping is the norm. Stuart Leckie, former HKRFU chairman and former chairman of the Hong Kong Club, was spotted in the box, as was Blaine Tomlinson, chief of FRM hedge fund-of-funds group in the UK.
Apart from the corporate guns, pop star Joyce Lee also stopped by. 'It's only my second time at the Sevens, I like it because the players are so strong and fast,' she offered.
As well as entertaining his own guests, Smith also spends time in the HKFRU box and the Sequins box, but stressed his box was not overstated.
