The 52-year-old trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fie and Jacky Tong Chi-kit continued the local rout in the Tolo Harbour Handicap as Rockalot finally made the grade in Class Four. Almost half the gelding's previous 21 starts had been in Class Four without managing a place, but Tong's perfect ride and a featherweight made all the difference as he overpowered Needles And Thread in the final stages. It was Rockalot's first all-weather victory and made it two on the bounce for the son of St Petersburg following a Class Five Happy Valley victory earlier this month. Favourite backers were out of sorts - not for the first or last time on the programme - as the John Moore-trained Three Clubs failed and a scope later revealed the five-year-old to have a significant amount of blood in his trachea. Tong has moved to 15 victories for the season, making it his second-best term to date and well on the way to eclipsing his career-best 22 victories in 2006-07.
