Wang's China Open hopes end in tatters
Wang Chun's dream of making history by becoming the first woman to qualify for the Volvo China Open crashed and burned on the back nine at the Hong Hua Golf Club in Beijing yesterday. The 32-year-old held a four-shot lead going into the back nine, but an errant drive on the par-four 13th resulted in a triple-bogey seven, a hole that started a run of eight dropped shots in seven painful holes. 'Everything was going so well,' said Wang. 'I was still in with a chance on the 17th but I three-putted that hole and then doubled the last to miss qualification by two shots. I'm really disappointed.' Amateur Chen Shuxin finished first after 36 holes with a 10-over 154. Liu Xin and Tuo Wentao also qualified for the event later this month, after shooting scores of 155.
