BEIJING'S Ministry of Communications has signed a loan of 502 million marks (about HK$2.22 billion) to import eight ships from Germany, says a German diplomat.

The vessels comprise two mixed cargo-passenger ships, four oil product carriers and two to carry coal, he said, adding that the ships would be built mainly in the former East Germany and would be used only for internal trade.
