Travellers' checks

Worldly wise

The first internationally branded resorts on the Japanese island of Okinawa have opened and guests at the two InterContinental properties will have a wealth of local knowledge at their fingertips. The ANA InterContinental Manza Beach and the ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort (below) both have 'resort centres', where a concierge will give the low-down on more than 100 'insider experiences'. The Manza property is a low-rise resort overlooking the sea and offering a children's club and marine activities. The other hotel is in an urban high-rise in Ishigaki city, close to the popular Maezato beachfront.

Light your fire
