A former head of the German and European chambers of commerce has been bound over for assaulting his wife outside their home on The Peak last month.

Horst Geicke, 53, chairman of Pacific Alliance, who did not enter a plea, was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond of HK$2,000 by acting Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai in Eastern Court yesterday.

The assault took place on March 29, near the junction of Gough Hill Road, the court heard. The incident happened when Geicke left the couple's home at about 11pm to go out. His wife, Katherine Yip Ching, followed him outside and tried to stop him from leaving.

Geicke got into a taxi, but his wife kept the passenger door open and prevented him from leaving. When Ms Yip attempted to get into the taxi, Geicke, who was already in the passenger seat, pushed her, causing her to fall, the court was told.

Patrolling police officers saw the incident and arrested Geicke. Ms Yip was sent to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment. The court heard she suffered minor injuries.

Under caution, Geicke had denied the offence.
