Disney workers get a dressing down, but no taking the Mickey
One of the few perks of being a hack in Hong Kong is that you can dress badly and no one cares. I was just scanning the Disney staff dress code and there is no way I could survive wearing what they have to wear, even for those who work in its air-conditioned offices. But, after years of complaints, sorry, I mean feedback, Disney has decided to relax the code a bit, at least for office workers. Costumed cast members - that's a different question.
'The office ladies, or female cast members in Disney-speak, might not find the impending summer to be such a drag as they can wear sleeveless blouses because of the launch of revamped Disney Look guidelines,' an anonymous Disney worker told us. 'Mind you, strappy sandals are still not allowed. We guys can finally breathe a little as we can now officially leave our work shirts in our wardrobes and wear polo shirts at work. This change of wind blew from the feedback that the company gathered from our cast members.'
Here are some of the revised guidelines.
Sleeveless blouses for women: Neatly pressed, professional-style sleeveless shirts or blouses (fabric between neck and shoulder must be minimum 7.6cm wide ... no tank top styles).
Polo shirts (men): Neatly pressed, professional-style polo shirts with no logos (except HKDL).
Footwear: Business casual, sneaker-style shoes (without logos) in black or brown leather for non-costumed cast members. For women, these should only be worn with trousers. Professional open-toe and sling back-style dress shoes for non-costumed female cast members are allowed; no strappy sandals.
