Anti-corruption law delay
THE CPPCC will make further deliberations on a radical proposal to curb corruption within the next three months, according to a senior member of the top consultative body, Xu Simin.
At the plenary session of the conference, Mr Xu, a Hong Kong publisher, suggested a law obliging officials - and their children - to declare their wealth and assets.
''My suggestion of rendering the assets of officials transparent won the support of the majority of CPPCC deputies, but the part of the suggestion concerning the offspring of cadres was less enthusiastically received,'' Mr Xu said.
Mr Xu said his suggestion was not discussed as the conference had a long agenda and most of the time was spent discussing economic issues, inflation, the foreign exchange and other aspects of the anti-corruption campaign.
''My particular suggestion will be put forward for consideration by the Communist Party authorities some time in June.'' He said corruption would decrease if government officials and their children were obliged to register their assets with the Government and make records public.
