Achievements Three-time champion in Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championship in 2004, 2008 and 2009. Second place in Korean Taekwondo Festival in 2004 and third place in 2005. Won Hong Kong Open Black Belt Taekwondo Competition in 2003 and 2008. Member of the Hong Kong taekwondo squad.

Soundbite 'I have been a fan of taekwondo since I was a young boy, but my mother did not allow me to go to classes because she thought it was a violent activity and was worried about me hurting others,' said the 25-year-old. 'After finishing primary school, I finally got the chance to learn taekwondo at a club. At the age of 16 I received my black belt and started taking part in tournaments.

'After graduating from a computer studies associate degree, I decided to become a full-time athlete. I don't want to give up the sport to work yet because I am still young.

'My focus now is on the East Asian Games and the 2010 Asian Games. After that I may consider pursuing a career in information technology or become a firefighter.

'Right now I am entirely focused on preparing for the East Asian Games. I need to become a steadier performer and listen to my instructor's advice.'

From his coach 'Poon is a veteran in the Hong Kong team with a lot of top-level experience. He has great techniques and power. He is also able to react very quickly to opponents. Sometimes he loses his composure when he falls behind. I have to talk with him before contests to remind him to keep calm, no matter the score,' said coach Lo Oi-ho.

Ambition 'My goal now is to win a gold medal in the East Asian Games. Up next is the first Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok, where I hope I can win.'
