Four Hong Kong restaurants rank among the world's 100 best dining experiences in a list compiled by British magazine Restaurant.

Japanese restaurant Zuma at The Landmark came in 51st, while L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon Hong Kong, also at The Landmark, ranked 55th. French restaurant Caprice at the Four Seasons Hotel was 78th, and Bo Innovation in Wan Chai was 97th.

Only three of the city's restaurants made the top 100 last year.

The annual list, sponsored by mineral water producer S. Pellegrino, was decided by more than 800 chefs, critics and industry insiders. Although not considered definitive, the rankings are taken seriously by the trade and can make or break a chef.

For the fourth straight year, Spain's El Bulli was named the world's best, while the enfant terrible of the kitchen, Gordon Ramsey, had only one restaurant on the list, in 91st place.

Michael Au, resident manager of Macau's Hotel Lisboa, which oversees L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Hong Kong, said the ranking would boost business. 'It's a recognition of our continued effort to serve the best food,' Mr Au said.
