A yacht worth more than HK$10 million ran aground early yesterday after the person piloting the vessel was suspected to have lost his way in the dark and holed the yacht in a rocky area off Sai Kung.

Three men, aged between 32 and 53, were aboard the 17-metre yacht when it ran aground off Lung Ha Wan at about 2.20am.

A police source said the yacht was heading towards Aberdeen Marina Club in Shum Wan after it was used for filming in Tso Wo Hang, Sai Kung.

Marine police launches, Marine Department vessels, fireboats and divers were called in after the three men went ashore at Lak Lei Tsai.

A Marine Department spokesman said the operation was difficult because the incident took place in shallow water and it was dark.

The three men were slightly injured and treated for minor injuries at Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

'It's dangerous for big vessels like the yacht navigating in that area,' the police source said. 'We suspect the boat lost its way in the dark.'

The boat was still sitting in the spot where it ran aground last night.

The Marine Department said the owner was responsible for salvage. It was looking into the incident.
