Yorkshire Pudding

With its bright red sliding doors reminiscent of that quintessential British symbol - the phone box - and its tasteful British-themed decor, Yorkshire Pudding is a comfortable spot to indulge in everything Her Majesty would approve of: Sunday roast, bangers and mash, toad in the hole, spotted dick and, of course, yorkshire pudding.

While traditional British fare is not in itself exciting, Yorkshire Pudding does it all well, much better than many pubs in England. The portions are generous without being stodgy, the vegetables are crisp and fresh instead of being boiled to the point of resembling soggy cardboard, and even the deep-fried dishes are fairly light on oil.

The salmon and prawn cake (HK$88) was light and tasty, while the leek, potato and Stilton soup (HK$58) was thick, rich and rewarding. The roast beef was a little tough but full of flavour and the seasonal vegetables on the side were so perfectly cooked they tasted like they had been hand-picked an hour ago. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and clotted cream was rich, indulgent and delicious. After waiting a few months, the restaurant now has a liquor licence, so sports fans can grab a drink and watch the game on the screens both downstairs and in the upstairs dining area. The wine list offers a limited selection of reds and whites (six of each), two champagnes plus draught beers, ales, bottled beers, cider and a fine range of Scotch.
