Ho wins court skirmish

Macau gambling tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun yesterday won his bid to obtain documents that he claimed would support comments he made about his sister, Winnie Ho Yuen-ki, almost three years ago.

Mr Justice Andrew Cheung Kui-nung ruled in the Court of First Instance that Mr Ho should be given access to the documents. Ms Ho sued her brother for defamation in 2006 over statements he made to the press. Those comments, which cannot be printed, came in response to a newspaper advertisement, placed by Ms Ho, which said Mr Ho had warned her never to return to Macau.

The ad also claimed Mr Ho's company, Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau, owed her HK$3 billion. Details of the documents sought by Mr Ho cannot be printed.
