An extract from the police statement, which was in Chinese
'As I have lived in Hong Kong for over seven years and often communicate with others in Chinese, I am able to listen and speak fluent local dialect...
'On the day when I moved in, I checked that both ends of the two bamboo poles were fastened with nylon strings to the iron rack outside the window, but I and my husband haven't checked them again...
'I believe that the fall of the bamboo pole was entirely because of the strong winds that day, so it was blown away and hit somebody downstairs. But I don't know why the strings which tied the pole were loosened.'
