BRITAIN'S largest telecommunications manufacturer GPT has won a GBP40 million (about HK$450 million) export order for transmission systems in China.

GPT will deliver equipment and optical-fibre cable for a 1,400-kilometre digital communications link along the Yangtze River, the company said in a statement.

The link, running from Wuhan to Chongqing, will have a capacity to carry up to 7,500 simultaneous voice and data calls over each of five fibre links, starting by mid-1995.
