Police swoop on smugglers
Marine police arrested a man, 25, and seized HK$5.18 million worth of smuggled computer hard disks and components in his goods van in Sai Kung at about 2am. Smugglers were loading the goods from two vessels into the van when police swooped on them. About 10 smugglers escaped in two speedboats.
Wheels come off rubbish truck
Two wheels came off a rubbish-collection truck in Borrett Road, Mid-Levels, at 6.51am. One of the truck's wheels rolled for a short distance and damaged railings and marble tiles of a wall outside a building. No one was injured in the incident.
Two-hour blaze at warehouse
Firemen spent nearly two hours to douse a blaze that broke out in a warehouse in San Tam Road, Yuen Long, at 1.54am. A truck was damaged in the incident. No one was injured. Police said their initial investigations had found nothing suspicious and firemen were investigating the cause of the blaze.
Teenage girl hit by car
A 17-year-old girl suffered injuries to her head, left arm and leg when she was hit by a car in Hammer Hill Road, Diamond Hill, at about 8am. She was treated at United Christian Hospital. The female driver, 52, was not arrested.
