What drives it? A 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine with fully variable valve management that bangs out 120hp at 6,000rpm married to a six-speed automatic gearbox, riding on 16-inch wheels.

How fast is it? It sprints to 100km/h in 11.1 seconds, to a top speed of 191km/h, and boasts torque of 160Nm at 4,250rpm.

How thirsty is it? It drinks 9.3 litres per 100km (30.3mpg) in town, 6.7l/100km (42.1mpg) combined from a 40-litre tank.

How clean is it? It spews 161 grams of carbon dioxide per km.

Will it fit in my space? The Cooper Cabrio is 3.7 metres long, 1.7 metres wide and just over 1.4 metres high. It weighs 1,280kg.

Mini Cooper S Cabrio

What drives it? 1.6 litre, four-cylinder engine that thumps out 175hp at 5,500rpm with a six-speed automatic transmission and 17-inch wheels. The engine was voted best 1.4-1.8-litre block in the International Engine of the Year awards.

How fast is it? The automatic version sprints to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds to reach a top speed of 217km/h; the manual version promises a dash half a second faster and tops at 222km/h, the marque says. It has torque of 240Nm at 1,600-5,000 rpm (260Nm with Overboost).

How thirsty is it? It drinks 9.9 litres per 100km (28.5mpg) in town, 7.1l/100km (39.7mpg) combined from a 50-litre tank.

How clean is it? It spews 170g/km of carbon dioxide.

Will it fit in my space? The Cooper S Cabrio is 3.7 metres long, just shy of 1.7 metres wide and a little over 1.4 metres high. It weighs 1,330kg

How safe are they? You get a pop-up roll-bar, four airbags, power steering, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, cornering brake control and brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control and start-off assistant.
