Soundbite 'I took up taekwondo at the age of eight at a community club. My parents thought it was a healthy activity. I started to get serious about the sport when I was in secondary school and joined the Hong Kong squad after finishing Secondary Five,' Ng said. 'But I left the team after two months because I had to concentrate on my A-levels. I rejoined the Hong Kong team after entering university.

'Thanks to taekwondo, I have a healthy mind and body and I have also made a lot of friends. I have never thought about becoming a full-time athlete because it is not easy to make a living through sport.

'Now I work at a trading company, and despite my busy schedule, I still find time to practise taekwondo five days a week, two hours a day.

'I really want to do well in international competitions. Taekwondo helps to release the pressures of my job.'

From her coach 'Ng is one of the more experienced players in the Hong Kong squad. She has great agility and technique. The best thing about her is that she is a calm and intelligent player,' said Lo Oi-ho.

'She is very good at reading her opponents and is able to adopt different styles. Strength is the only thing that she is lacking. We have done a lot of conditioning training with her to increase her strength.'

Ambitions 'I hope to win a gold medal in the upcoming East Asian Games. I also want to take part in the Taekwondo World Championships. To achieve this, I need to get good results in other international competitions.'
