The MTR Corporation would apply to increase fares this year, the company announced yesterday. It said this was because the outcome of a fare adjustment formula was 0.7 per cent - below the 1.5 per cent minimum rate required for a fare rise application. The rate takes into account the year-on-year change in the composite consumer price index, and other factors.
