Trio just the tonic

The Punchline Comedy Club offers what has to be the funniest night out you can have in Hong Kong, just what the doctor ordered if you need a pick-me-up during the economic downturn.

From tonight through Sunday, the club - based at The Viceroy in Wan Chai's Sun Hung Kai Centre - will present three of Britain's finest stand-up comedians: Scotsman Geoff Boyz, Briton Greg Burns and Welshman Lloyd Langford (below).

All three have received rave reviews, but Langford, who was the support act for Russell Brand's Only Joking tour, was said by The Guardian newspaper to possess 'one of the sharpest comedic minds on the circuit'. The shows start at 9pm and entry costs HK$320.

Volar eclipse

It's not often that Hong Kong is visited by world champion scratch DJs - last month's show by Kentaro was the first since Qbert's gig in 2006 - but hip hop fans are in for a double treat next month when Volar plays host to two of the world's top turntablists.

American DJs Craze and Klever will be staging a four-deck tag-team event at the Central club on June 25.

You may have seen multiple world DMC champion Craze waxing lyrically about his profession in the excellent documentary Scratch from 2001, the same year he was named Time magazine's best DJ in the US.

Klever is a relative newcomer but has two American DMC titles under his belt and continues to move his craft forward. Catch them both back-to-back on June 25 for HK$250.

Rockraiser is back

Hold those Rockraiser tickets: the Cyberport event that was washed out earlier this month has been rescheduled to October 10.

Organisers say they will try to put on the same lineup - including great Beijing bands Queen Sea Big Shark and New Pants - and are planning a surprise for those who brought tickets to the original event.
