Inmate brought drugs into centre
An inmate smuggled 20 tranquilliser tablets into the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre and shared 10 with five others before being caught by prison guards. The Correctional Services Department said the man admitted swallowing 20 tablets wrapped in plastic before entering the centre. He has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs.
Smugglers flee in speedboats
Eight smugglers loading two speedboats at a Stanley pier escaped on the boats when police sprung an ambush at 1.30am. Goods worth HK$1.5 million were seized.
Tyres damaged as yard set on fire
Stored tyres were damaged when an arsonist set fire to a container yard in Sha Tau Kok Road, Sha Tau Kok, before dawn. Firemen were called at 3.54am and took nearly two hours to douse the flames. No one was injured.
