Mattresses come up short

Four of 20 mattress models tested by the Consumer Council sustained considerable height loss in a durability test and two of them, branded King Koil and Slumberland, lost more than 12 millimetres in height. Meanwhile, all models were found to comply with the smouldering cigarette test, but eight samples did not pass a match-flame test. The council urged mattress producers to make safer products.

Air cons not so cool

A consumer council test on 15 air conditioners showed that most performed slightly below their claimed cooling capacity, with the biggest discrepancy at about 6 per cent. All but one sample conformed to the energy efficiency requirements of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department. For test results, refer to http://choice.yp.com.hk
