DIY updos

Short and sweet

Just because your hair is shoulder-length doesn't mean you can't create a glamorous do.

Blow-dry your hair and brush it through, teasing at the roots to create more volume. Spray on a texturising product, such as a salt spray or liquid wax, to give hair hold.

Create a half ponytail and secure with a hair elastic. Leave some wisps of hair loose around your face.

Take strands from the ponytail and twirl around your finger to create waves, then use bobby pins to pin up random strands of hair around the base of the ponytail, leaving the ends sticking out.

Sleek and chic

This is a simple, yet elegant look for girls with long hair.

Divide your hair into 'layers' and pin them up. Starting with the bottom layer, curl 10cm-wide sections of hair. Be sure to keep each section thin, and leave the first 15cm of hair from the root uncurled.

Work your way up to the top layer, and then pull hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck.

Take individual curls and randomly pin them around the base of the ponytail, creating a bun.

Get it braided

This is an easy, funky look for long-haired lasses.

Take three small sections of hair on the right of the head and create three thin plaits. Secure each with a hair tie.

Take two of the thin plaits over the head and secure them with bobby pins by the left ear.

Pull hair into a ponytail at the middle of your head and split in half. Plait each half. Take one plait and wind it around the base of the ponytail, leaving the ends loose, and pin it into place. Wind the second plait around the first, again leaving the ends loose, and pin it into place.

Finally, wind the last thin plait around the outside of the 'plait bun' and pin it into place.
