Decorators demand back-pay

About 15 decoration workers at the Celestial Heights project yesterday accused a sub-contractor of owing them HK$200,000 in back pay for the last two months. The workers gathered at the property site at Tin Kwong Road, Ho Man Tin, demanding Cheung Kong (Holdings), the property developer in charge of the project, help solve the dispute. The workers have been promised they will get their pay no later than May 29.

Almost half fear end of winters

About 45 per cent of Hongkongers expressed concern that there would not be a winter in the future because of global warming, a poll by Baptist University's Organic Resource Centre found. Some 47 per cent of the 523 respondents said they left their televisions on stand-by mode, instead of turning it off, and 42 per cent did not bother much about the efficiency when buying appliances. But 82.2 per cent said they would be willing to take their own bags shopping.

Minister leaves for summit

Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau Tang-wah will attend the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit in Seoul today. Mr Yau is to meet representatives from around the world and is expected to speak at a session on engaging stakeholders in the fight against climate change.
