Provisions for special needs

Richard Watt

The ESF is one of the major providers of education to non-Cantonese speaking students with special education needs. Pressure groups estimate there are up to 3,000 such children in Hong Kong. Places for them at ESF schools are:

24 places at The Learning Support Centre, West Island School; 77 places at six primary schools; 28 secondary places at King George V School; 21 at South Island School; 60 places for students with moderate to severe needs at the Jockey Club Sarah Roe School.

Several private and international schools also offer places. Waiting lists are up to two years.

The Education Bureau advises parents who cannot get places to send their children to local government schools where provisions for them are available.
