Who started it? Born in Jordan and raised in Montreal, Canada, Rad Hourani enjoyed fashion at a young age, visiting a dressmaker every week with his mother. He entered the fashion business as a model scout and then became a stylist. In 2005, at the age of 22, Hourani relocated to Paris, France, where he launched his eponymous label. He debuted at Paris Fashion Week in 2007 but continues to show at New York Fashion Week. Last year, he was named as one of Style.com's top 10 new faces.
Why we love it: Hourani's clothes are edgy and cool, prompting many editors to compare his work to that of Ann Demeulemeester and Helmut Lang (whom he cites as an influence). His clothes are designed to be worn anytime, anywhere, with every collection a continuation of the previous one. His styles are unisex - but not androgynous - and predominantly black, although accent colours are used for runway shows. Layered looks feature skinny legs, careful volume on top and plenty of detail. He tries on every single one of his creations for the perfect fit. For spring, expect draped silk shells, sliced leather leggings and faux fur.
What we'd pick: the cool fur-like vest (HK$11,899), leather mini shift dress (above right; HK$9,999) and silk jacket with pleated cuffs (right; HK$9,399).
