Ju Ching Chu Secondary School

The 43rd Anniversary of Ju Ching Chu Secondary School on May 8 was the highlight of the academic year and a great success.

Thanks to the hard work of students and teachers, the Inter-House Drama Competition went smoothly.

Meanwhile, the Alumni Tea Party filled the air with memories.

The party was attended by many former students, even including one who graduated in the 1970s.

The main feature of this year's anniversary party was the interaction of former students with the younger school boys and girls.

A former student who is a graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts directed the drama competition, and other old boys and girls helped with rehearsals, scripts, makeup, costumes and so on.

The Watoto Children's Choir held a concert at our school on May 7. The Concert of Hope was organised by the HKCCN and Watoto HK, and the performers were orphans from Uganda whose parents have died of Aids. The youngsters are now living in the charity-sponsored Watoto Village.

We were all impressed with the dancing and singing, and some students joined in. After the concert, we interviewed some of the Watoto children. They were Dorothy, Patrick and Issac, along with their guardian, Peter. They had been in Hong Kong for two weeks, and they said they were missing their friends and family back in Uganda.

Even so, they said they liked Hong Kong very much with its good weather and clean environment. During their stay, they visited Disneyland, and excitedly told us they had photos taken with the Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse.

When asked about their life in Uganda, they said that they liked to play football and other sports in their free time. They said they have to practise for their concerts every day but since they loved singing and dancing, they enjoyed their practice a lot. They also shared with us their favourite dish called irio.

NLSI Lui Kwok Pat Fong College

On April 27, NLSI Lui Kwok Pat Fong College held its fourth Annual Movie Competition at lunchtime.

The competition was a chance for Form Four students to showcase their filmmaking talent and acting skills, and for any budding Steven Spielbergs to demonstrate their creativity.

Students had to write their own scripts, shoot a six to eight-minute film and edit it by adding sound, graphics and subtitles.

The six films shown on the day were: Home or Fame - As Good As It Gets, 15 Minutes, Doraemon and Pretty Siu Fool, Treasure, A Mysterious Book and Introspection in Heaven.

The short films centred around common issues confronted by teenagers, including romance, friendship and mutual help, in daily life.

They were all aimed at bringing out a positive outlook and cultivating a sense of morality among the students.

All the films received praise and compliments from the judges.
