All goes well for Super Caga in the end

What do they say about the best-laid plans of...horse trainers? When former New Zealander Super Caga led all the way for his first success in the all-weather San Domenico Handicap (1,650m) it was the coming together of a plan from trainer Almond Lee, who had run off the rails but ended happily. 'He got a crack in his foot in February and that's why he was off the scene for long time. I had aimed at this race for a while but he is a big horse and I thought he would need a race to get him fit for it. He was down to run last week and then back-up today, but his was one of the races that was called off in the bad weather last Sunday and so he had to come into this without a run,' Lee said. Fitness though didn't appear an issue as Super Caga fought back doggedly to win after looking beaten at the 150m. 'It's good to know that he handles this surface and we have some options with him.'
