Why you can trust SCMP
Adam Wright

From print to party with HK Live! Here at the South China Morning Post we have a healthy contingent of obsessive music followers, but this has yet to result in a monthly live band showcase called, for example, SCMP Live!

Until we get one of our own, you'll just have to settle for the excellent monthly HK Live! events presented by HK Magazine that for more than two years have provided a venue for the best local bands and the occasional international guest.

The series continues this Saturday at the Fringe Club, where Velvette Vendetta will be promoting their recently released EP Beautiful Vision Distorted. They've got a plethora of influences - everything from blues and jazz to metal, classical and techno - and have become a must-see act.

Also on the bill are the David Bowie Knives, who've been bashing out their self-described 'sex rock' for more than two years, and pop-rockers Supper Moment, winners of last year's Tom Lee Acoustic Soundbase Competition.

Saturday's show starts at 10pm and entry at the door is HK$100.

Songs from The Underground Our city's other venerable live music institution is The Underground, and this month it will release a second compilation CD featuring 11 Hong Kong bands.
