Lawmakers yesterday approved funding for the Environmental Protection Department's HK$4 billion sludge incinerator project in Tsang Tsui, Tuen Mun. About 30 legislators supported the move, while eight opposed it and two abstained. The project is to be completed by 2012, despite lobbying from Green Island Cement. It proposed what it claimed to be a cheaper option to treat the sludge from wastewater treatment at its cement plant in Tuen Mun.
