Keeping watch on your maid has never been easier, thanks to PCCW

The life of a domestic helper is full of burdens as it is, but PCCW has come up with a new and profitable way to add to them: hidden surveillance cameras.

That's right, for HK$1,900 a piece and a monthly subscription fee of HK$98, you can have 'PCCW EasyWatch for your Home!'.

That comes with a camera with manoeuvrable lens that can be remote-controlled by your 3G mobile phone and also accessed from your office computer or laptop. Nothing your maid does will escape your attention.

You can even record film footage, which will be stored in PCCW servers and recalled only by you.

'PCCW EasyWatch provides total peace of mind by enabling you to keep an eye on your home at any time from anywhere,' the dedicated website says. 'You can keep watch over your baby, elderly relatives and pets via the internet, mobile phone, Now TV and the PCCW eye fixed-line multimedia service. With absolutely no complex installation necessary, PCCW EasyWatch provides a one-stop home surveillance solution, from initial set-up to routine maintenance.'

A Chinese-language text message advert (pictured), sent to Now or Netvigator subscribers, was even more to the point. 'Worried about your baby while at work? Want to know how your helper is getting along with him?'

Successful subscription comes with 'a bible' on how to hire domestic helpers worth HK$210, it adds.

Presumably that comes with instructions on how to conduct surveillance on your maid(s).
