Northwest and KLM airlines seek strategic Asian partners
NORTHWEST Airlines is looking for one or more strategic non-equity partners in Asia to fill a big gap in its global alliance with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Gary Wilson, co-chairman of the US airline, said yesterday although no talks were under way, he hoped Northwest and KLM would be able to forge strategic operating ties with one or more carriers in China to tap the massive mainland market.
The two partners also hoped to link up with one other national carrier outside China with an extensive regional network.
Mr Wilson said Northwest was not looking to buy into any Asian airlines, but he did not rule out providing aircraft to any China partner that found its resources were stretched.
Mr Wilson said that this was a ''vision'' he hoped could soon be realised.
