Wong Yat-Hei

Name Yeung Tsz-wing

Sport Taekwondo

Achievements Yeung, 22, won the Hong Kong Open Black Belt Taekwondo Competition in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and the Asian Cities Gold Cup Taekwondo Championship in 2006 and this year.

He is a member of the Hong Kong taekwondo squad.

Soundbite 'I first took part in taekwondo as a school activity when I was in Secondary One,' Yeung said.

'I did it just for fun. Before receiving my black belt, I had never taken part in any taekwondo competitions and didn't realise I had a talent for the sport. When I was in Form Five I got my black belt and signed up for the Hong Kong Open Black Belt Taekwondo Competition.

'To everyone's surprise, including myself, I came second. Then my coach encouraged me to become a full-time athlete and I took his suggestion.

'My family supported my decision. Now I make a living as a taekwondo instructor.

'The career of an athlete is short and I think I will stop taking part in tournaments in my early 30s and focus entirely on coaching.

'At the moment, I am looking to improve my physical strength and gain more experience by participating in large-scale tournaments.'

From his coach 'Yeung has great agility, he is powerful and his footwork is excellent, making him tough to beat,' said coach Lo Oi-ho.

'But he needs to stay calm and learn to make better decisions during a contest.

'Sometimes, he pays too much attention to the score and loses concentration.

'He also has a tendency to rush his moves when he is trailing and I have to remind him to calm down and stay focused.'

Ambition 'My goal now is to win gold in the upcoming East Asian Games. My ultimate dream is to win an Olympic gold medal,' Yeung said.
