Rare artworks make Asian debut

Art and fashion lovers are in for a treat this month as several fashion-related exhibitions from London and Paris come to town. One of the exhibitions is Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation.

This large exhibition, taking up two floors of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, is not only an archive of the luxury fashion brand's 150-year history, but also a selection of modern artworks that will later be shown at the innovative Louis Vuitton Foundation Creation Museum in Paris, France.

For a local touch, the organiser has invited seven artists to create artworks for this show that depict urban life in Hong Kong.

'We're happy to share our passion and creation with the Hong Kong public,' said Yves Carcelle of Louis Vuitton.

At the exhibition, visitors will see a model of the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation Museum, designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry and inspired by the shape of the clouds. There will also be a filmed interview with the creator of the building.

Looking at the history of the fashion brand, the exhibition will feature some significant items on its way to success.

These include historical, tailor-made luggage, artistic collaborations such as the pop art influenced, colourful monogram print from Takashi Murakami, intriguing, dark works from Richard Prince and the bold graffiti on a bag by Stephen Sprouse.

The exhibition offers a rare chance to see high-quality sculptures, paintings, photography and installations on display in Asia for the first time by famous artists Gilbert & George, Bertrand Lavier, Jeff Koons and Andreas Gursky.

Prepare to immerse yourself in the arts and remember to reserve at least four hours for the show, as there is a lot to see.

Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation is on until August 9. Admission fee: HK$30
