Purpose-built special needs through school run by ESF and adjacent to KGV School. Caters for up to 60 children aged 5-19 with severe learning difficulties. The catchment area is the whole of Hong Kong. Implements the National Curriculum of England and Wales using the EQUALS (Entitlement and Quality Education for Pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties) schemes of work to provide a supportive but challenging learning experience. The School is the first special school for children and young people with severe learning difficulties to become a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The centre is a non-profit charitable organisation providing early education and intervention services for children with special needs in English. Children aged up to 6 years are integrated with their typically developing peers and given the opportunity to learn through educational and therapeutic intervention. With a 1:3 teacher student ratio, the centre caters for a range of difficulties, including learning disabilities, speech and language delays, physical and intellectual impairments, and autism. It provides help for over 150 special needs children and their families each year. British National Curriculum started last year and will continue with a complete implementation this coming year. The CDC is a member of the Growing Together Group of Charities.

Individualised, full-day, 12-month programme for students from 3 to 11 with autism-related disorders. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) methodology used as teaching model. Development of a range of skills sought, including academic, language, social, leisure, play, community, and self-care. Language instruction is the core of each student's educational programme. One-to-one instruction throughout the school day with small group instruction where appropriate. The institute has moved from Repulse Bay to Kennedy Town, where it shares space with The Harbour School, a new international kindergarten and primary school, so pupils can develop friendships with their typical peers and be part of a larger school community.

English-speaking service for post-16 young adults with learning disabilities. Originally inspired by a parent and established in 1993. Aims to help people become independent by providing diversified learning opportunities and vocational skills. Students are encouraged to participate in supported work opportunities within the community. Special needs include autism, cerebral palsy, dyspraxia and Down Syndrome, among others. A programme started by the Rainbow Project charity to provide specialist education for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and, where possible, to give them a bridge into mainstream schooling. A multidisciplinary approach is taken with individualised programmes developed for each child. There are five places available for pupils aged 3 - 6 years and seven places available for pupils aged 5-11 years in the project's classrooms at Tung Chung and Stubbs Road respectively. There is a waiting list for places but Rainbow is hoping to open another primary-level classroom and a new class for secondary students soon. In addition to regular classes, Rainbow offers summer playgroups. Project members are involved in community work outside the classroom to promote an understanding of autism. Rainbow offers regular training sessions for parents of autistic children and their helpers and plans to commence training courses for educational assistants and teachers who work with Autistic Children in a mainstream environment. Rainbow has recently opened an Autism Resource Centre in Sai Ying Pun offering speech and occupational therapies and other related services. Springboard Project

A charity founded in 1994, Springboard Project operates classes hosted at the Korean International School for children and young people with mild to moderate special educational needs including autism, down's syndrome and global developmental delays. It runs a primary and a middle school class from 5-15 years. The Horizons programme is provided for students from 16-21 years and held at Springboard's Pokfulam centre. This is a community-based programme with a focus on practical academics and life skills designed to prepare students to be contributing family and community members. Separate programmes for Cantonese and non-Cantonese speaking children and parents. Private programmes available on Saturdays include piano and yoga, speech and music therapy.
