HK's Zhou outlasts Xie to snare Singapore title
Hong Kong's Zhou Mi won her first Super Series title of the year when she overcame Xie Xingfang of China in the singles final of the Singapore Open yesterday.
Zhou, the top seed, prevailed in a gruelling one-hour battle, beating the Beijing Olympic Games silver medallist 21-19, 18-21, 21-10.The victory will give Zhou, the world number two, a confidence boost ahead of this week's Indonesia Super Series tournament, where she has the opportunity of regaining her world number one ranking from Tine Rasmussen of Denmark.
China's Bao Chunlai took the men's title yesterday with a 21-19, 16-21, 21-15 win over Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand.
China also captured two other titles, in the mixed doubles and women's doubles events.
Britain's Anthony Clark and Nathan Robertson shocked Olympic gold medallists Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 21-12, 21-11 in the men's doubles final.
