Marwing has arsenal to topple fancied Chadwick

Murray Bell

Outstanding apprentice Matthew Chadwick heads a tight Jockey Challenge market for Sha Tin today but at a significantly more appealing price, Weichong Marwing is the one who can turn him over.

When Jockey Challenge markets were issued last night, the indicative odds of $2.75 were nowhere to be found about Chadwick and fans were left to consider $2.10 about the seven-pound claimer. His price drifted out slightly to $2.20 by the 7pm tote call.

Marwing, on the other hand, held his place in betting as $4.50, equal second favourite, with the same price available about in-form Australian jockey Zac Purton.

Marwing looks to have five clear winning chances on the programme - the same as Chadwick - so makes more betting appeal at the significantly better price on offer.

Chadwick fills the vacuum among the top order, with Douglas Whyte serving a suspension for careless riding and Brett Prebble on duty in England to ride champion sprinter Sacred Kingdom.

The teenager landed another double at Sha Tin last weekend and only missed the Jockey Challenge narrowly when Prebble was placed in the final event.

If there is a value option today, it could be Mark du Plessis at $17, though the smart early shoppers did secure some $20 late yesterday afternoon.

Du Plessis can start the day on a winning note with Mythic Steed for Michael Chang Chun-wai in the Class Five opener.
