Selling Shanghai, alcohol and themselves is all in a day's work for this comedic trio

What drink comes to mind when you think of Shanghai in the 1930s? If booze-makers Diageo and Shui Jing Fang have their way, it will be vodka.

The two brands threw a party at the Western Market's Grand Stage on Wednesday to launch their collaboration, Shanghai White, a new premium spirit made on the mainland using 600-year-old methods to distil Chinese bai jiu (white wine).

Hong Kong is to be the guinea pig market for the product, and the launch party was an elaborate affair designed to conjure the nostalgia and glamour of the jazzy era.

To give the new drink added personality, they have appointed local comedy troupe CB Fresh - comprising Rob Lok, Vince Matthew Chung and Simon Yin in matching pinstripe suits - to be their ambassadors.

'It's a really fresh, premium drink. My favourite way to appreciate it is on the rocks,' Chung, co-winner of the most recent The Amazing Race Asia, pitched.

For now, the three will be dropping by clubs, offering samples and generally chatting up the Shanghai-themed but Chengdu-produced Russian drink.

Good gig, but does this mean the trio are selling out even before they made it?
