Robots in detailed disguises
Like the song goes, with Transformers, you should expect 'More than meets the eye'.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is a continuation of the war between two groups of alien robots, with humans getting trapped in between.
This is more than a cool story - there are stunning scenes shot in Egypt and Jordan, and amazing fight scenes between the Decepticons (the bad guys) and the Autobots.
The robots are incredibly detailed, moving and talking like humans, but with amazing technical functions. But while these details work in close-up, during fight scenes, it's difficult to focus on the small distinctions between Decepticon and Autobot, making the fight feel like two pieces of metal coming to blows. What is meant to visually stimulate actually distracts.
As with many action flicks, not much is made of character development. One exception is Jetfire, a Decepticon-turned-Autobot. He's a bit of a grumpy old man, who has been trapped on Earth for millennia.
The parents of lead character Sam (Shia LeBeouf) continue to entertain with their embarrassing humour producing some big laughs between fights.
The end is far from being a surprise; like most superhero movies, the baddies can't win. But the war is not over, so hold your breath: a third episode is bound to be on the horizon.
