Tropical storm plays havoc with outdoor launch of boutique

Volkswagen

Chaos reigned on Friday afternoon in Causeway Bay at the opening of a new outlet for Swiss brand Longines on narrow Ying Ping Road.

It didn't help that Tropical Storm Nangka was adding to the bedlam by letting the sun through one minute and then dumping a drenching the next on the gathered reporters, photographers, executives and curious bystanders. For some reason, the entire ceremony was held outdoors.

That was even before the special guest, Taiwan model Lin Chi-ling, showed up in a white gown and matching Lamborghini convertible.

With the threat of more rain and wearing only a flimsy gown, Lin obviously didn't want to stand out in the elements too long.

She posed for a few pictures (including with two topless male models), dotted the eyes of a lion, presented the watches and was ready to leave. But before she left, reporters broke the news to her of Michael Jackson's death.

'What? Is that true?' she asked. 'I am very shocked. He was an iconic figure, and I liked his song We Are the World the best. I can't believe that he passed away.'
