Sub-zero heroes battle dinosaurs
Fans of the sub-zero heroes will not be disappointed by their latest adventure. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is in 3-D and introduces some pretty spiffy characters.
Mammoths Manny - voiced by Ray Romano - and Ellie (Queen Latifah) are going to have a baby. The idea of the cozy little family sparks Diego, the sabre-toothed tiger voiced by Denis Leary, to head out in search of adventure. But it's Sid, the silly sloth (John Leguizamo), who happens to find a clutch of very large eggs and decides to make them his family. Unfortunately, as the movie title suggests, the eggs are of the giant lizard variety and chaos ensues.
Mama-dino comes looking for her babies, and when she finds them, she scoops up Sid, too. This leads Manny, Ellie, Diego and the two crazy possum brothers Crash and Eddie to mount a search and rescue effort into a world far different from their ice paradise.
The world below is filled with huge dinosaurs, some of which make the mammoths look like chickens. It has some awesome-sounding places like The Plates of Woe, and is a lush, seemingly tranquil world under the ice.
The new character, Buck, a swashbuckling weasel voiced by Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the new Star Trek movie, is certainly a show stealer. The one-eyed, impossibly acrobatic hero is the only mammal in the world of lizards. He fell through the ice some time ago, and he has already been in a fight with the dino-king, an albino called Rudy.
In that fight, Buck lost his eye and took Rudy's tooth, which he has made into a very useful dagger. Now he leads the heroes on their quest to find Sid.
Immensely popular Scrat is still in the show and meets a lady-love, but is she more interested in the acorn than in the sabre-toothed squirrel?
Enchanting, hilarious and beautifully made, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is one movie you wouldn't want to miss this summer.
