They sat in the Dongguan clubhouse at Mission Hills like a pair of love-struck teenagers, finishing each other's sentences and giggling while sharing stories of how they first met.

For a split second, you could almost forget they were two iconic 54-year-old multimillionaires who, at one time, dominated their respective sports as number-one ranked players.

Mixing business with pleasure, Greg Norman was accompanied by his new wife, Chris Evert, as he made his first trip in five years this week to the Shenzhen golf resort, which includes Norman's contribution among its 12 signature courses.

On his way to the UK to prepare for the Open Championship at Turnberry from July 16-19, the Great White Shark was circling on the fringes of the China market, with plans to use golf-course design as a launching pad for his other businesses, including wine sales.

'The door has been opened to golf in China and I want to be part of the growth as a player and a businessman,' says Norman, the chief executive of Great White Shark Enterprises. The two-time major champion patiently addressed a sprawling, bilingual media conference with standing room only ('This is better than the White House press room,' he chuckled) before switching to the subject of his new relationship as he joined Evert in a cosy interview room.

'We've got a great connection and a great energy, plus an understanding of what our past lives have been like in the world of sport,' Norman says. 'I've never had the ability to be able to sit down with somebody and understand exactly what's it felt like, what I need to do and how I need to go about it.'
