Jan 2008 Albert Cheng announces he will not seek another Legco term, returning to the airwaves instead. He says he is leading a consortium to apply for a new commercial AM station.

Feb 2008 Public consultations begin over the application. The consortium, Wave Media, intends to inject HK$140 million into the project if granted a licence.

Jul 2008 Executive Council approves 'in principle' the application for a 12-year licence to run a 24-hour Cantonese-language radio station.

Nov 2008 A group of Peng Chau residents petitions the government, objecting to the station's plan to erect a radio transmitter on a hill on the island.

Nov 2008 The government grants the licence for the station to broadcast on AM810. It is scheduled to begin within two years and to follow a list of requirements, including the provision of news and weather reports.

Jan 2009 Mr Cheng claims the investors might abandon the project amid the transmitter row. The government promises to help resolve the matter.

Mar 2009 Mr Cheng says the transmitter row is forcing the station to postpone its launch from September to December.
