You can have a magnetic and irresistible voice ... for a price

Former Metro Radio disc jockey Hung Chiu-fung is back.

Hong Kong may have been glued in the past few months to the probate fight of Fung Shui master Tony Chan Chun-chuen over the estate of his claimed lover, the late Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum, who was Asia's richest woman. But long before that, Hung was the man most famous for his love affair with another late billionaire, Theresa Po Wing-kam. No one doubted theirs was a passionate relationship, which set tongues wagging around town back in the late 1990s.

Hung has been under the radar for a long time. Now he is offering to train you to have a mesmerising voice like his own, 'magnetic, gentle, endearing and irresistible', as he wrote on his personal website, HungChiufung.com. He has been hosting a Chinese-language programme on a US radio station, also available on the internet. The two courses cost HK$1,000 each. Besides the one on voice, another teaches singing, which will also contain vocal-cord training and therapy.

Hung's tempestuous, on-again, off-again love affair with Po back then was followed blow by blow by the tabloids. Heartbreaks and recriminations would spill into press releases or be aired in impromptu press conferences. Tearful reconciliations followed. After the death of Po, who was the former wife of Chinese Estates tycoon Joseph Lau Luen-hung, Hung started to behave erratically and escaped the spotlight for a long time. In a generous gesture, Lau said Hung was a good man and asked the media to leave him alone. Evidently, Hung never sought to lay his hands on the fortune of his billionaire lover, unlike some people now.
