After lining up for days, fans of stars excited for doors to open
Fans of pop stars and pseudo-models began lining up outside of the Convention and Exhibition Centre as much as a week ago to demonstrate their undisputed loyalty to their idols at the opening of the Book Fair today.
More than 50 fans of Canto-pop singer Theresa Fu, who will autograph her new book today at 1pm, said they had been lining up for a week. Some insisted on continuing to camp out even when typhoon signal No9 was in force on Sunday morning.
Another group of fans comprised the boys (and men) who showed up to see their pseudo-model goddesses.
Leon Siu, a 17-year-old bespectacled Form Five student, arrived yesterday at 6am, bringing along two of his favourite photo albums featuring teen models in revealing bikinis to keep him company during the long wait. He vowed to buy five photo albums so he could get tickets to the autograph sessions.
Popular, though controversial, pseudo-model Chrissie Chow is to attend the 4pm session today.
A protest against the Trade Development Council, which organises the fair, tolerating the invasion by models and celebrities will begin at 2pm. Protest leader Isaac Cheung Chun-hoi expected 20 people to show up at the demonstration.
The council said stars' autograph sessions had already been moved away from the main fair area, and some publishers agreed not to let models and others do promotional activities inside the fair. The council added that stars and models were required to dress properly and be respectful.
Its public affairs head, William Cheung, said that if models' outfits were found to be too revealing, they would be advised to wear something else.
