Flag-waving US country singer to play at FCC ball

The Foreign Correspondents' Club has announced its entertainment for its eighth annual charity ball, to be held on September 19 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. Once again, it's an interesting choice - country artists The Charlie Daniels Band.

It's probably not an exaggeration to say most of the journalists and members of the FCC are generally liberal-leaning types, so the decision to bring the fiddle-playing Nashville stomper Daniels is a bit odd. The southern rocker may be a Grammy winner but recently he has also been relatively outspoken on his political views. More than just a flag-waving American patriot, Daniels was also a staunch defender of George W. Bush's war on Iraq.

Will guests at this black-tie evening be hollering for his inflammatory Arab-insulting anthem This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag?

As least they will be supporting the Po Leung Kuk scholarship fund and language training programme.

Tickets, including dinner and unlimited drinks, are HK$1,998. E-mail: [email protected] or call 2521-1511.
